Public To Hear Downtown Toms River Redevelopment Plan

TOMS RIVER – A redevelopment plan for parts of the downtown area will be presented to the public at a meeting from 5-7 p.m. on August 19 in the L. Manuel Hirshblond Room, 2nd Floor of Town Hall, 33 Washington Street.

This is an informational meeting on the proposed development. No decisions will be made.

The site has become controversial as residents – and even some elected officials – have questioned whether the downtown area can handle that many extra cars, what the homes will do to the underfunded school system, and why the township is giving the developers a break in taxes and in purchasing the property.

New Autism Therapy Provider, Helping Hands Family, Opens Clinics in 2 New Jersey Locations

TOMS RIVER, N.J., Aug. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Helping Hands Family (HHF) is excited to announce that they are opening clinics in Ocean County and Mullica Hill, NJ, which continues their mission in positively impacting children with autism in the area. Currently, HHF has one New Jersey clinic in Mt. Laurel Township offering ABA therapy to children diagnosed with autism, but that number is now expanding with the 2 recent openings.

When HHF was founded, they knew there was a gap in high-quality ABA therapy in the region, and since then they have made it a priority to expand access to care to the families of NJ. As HHF serves more families, parents have been quite happy with their child’s growth and elevated performances in daily tasks. These positive outcomes are made possible by HHF’s well-trained RBTs and BCBAs through their expertise and dedicated care.

Parents Weigh Sending Children Back To School With Masks

OCEAN COUNTY – For many students across the country, this fall will be their first time back in the classroom on a regular schedule in almost a year and a half. New Jersey students are no exception. Based on the state’s guidance, students should expect to be back in school full time, with no remote option as of yet.

Gov. Phil Murphy declared that all students, educators, staff and visitors are required to wear masks in public, private and parochial schools, regardless of grade level, unless they meet an exemption.

Some parents called for a virtual learning option for students. Perhaps their child was a more successful or confident online learner, or they worried about the Delta variant of COVID-19. Others expressed concerns about masking students.

The misinformation and myths holding Americans from getting vaxxed

More than half of Americans (51%) are not sure whether or not to believe some of the false claims and misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccines, according to a new survey from a coalition of university-based research from across the country.

In June, researchers from Rutgers, Northeastern, Harvard and Northwestern universities polled more than 20,000 Americans from all 50 states and Washington, D.C., with the COVID States Project. It asked Americans to mark four popular vaccine misinformation claims as either “true,” “false,” or “not sure.”

Blood Donations Needed In Toms River Area: Red Cross Drive Coming Up Soon

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Red Cross urged people to donate blood as wildfires and record-breaking heat drive donations down. A projected busy hurricane season will likely shrink donations even further.

All types of blood donations are needed, but there is an especially large demand for Type O.

The plea for donations comes at a time when the country is experiencing high demand for blood transfusions. Hospitals are treating a high number of traumatic injuries this summer. Organ transplants and elective surgeries also increased the urgent need for blood products.

Toms River East getting used to COVID-19 bubble life at LLWS regional

Before the pandemic, children playing Little League baseball often would greet their parents with a hug after games. Now, children sit at a picnic table and acknowledge their parents — standing at a distance — with a wave.

As COVID-19 continues to drastically alter the world, Little League is no different. At the Mid-Atlantic Region tournament in Bristol, Conn., Toms River East of New Jersey is battling not only its competition, but also strict COVID-19 protocols.

“It’s crazy with the parents. We see [the kids] on the field and after the game you want to hug them,” Charlie Frazier Jr., father of Toms River East’s pitcher, center fielder, shortstop and first baseman, Carson Frazier, told The Post. “My wife [Mindy] wants to squeeze Carson so badly. After the game, we go to the back of the complex to a special area. They have to sit on a table and we stand like 10 feet away and they have to wear a mask. You have all the moms yelling, ‘Hey great hit, are you keeping your clothes neat?’”
