TOMS RIVER, NJ — A multiyear effort will come to fruition on Thursday when Toms River officials and state officials finalize the purchase of the former Joey Harrison’s Surf Club property in Ortley Beach.

Toms River Mayor Maurice “Mo” Hill said state officials and the town will finalize the purchase of the property, covering about 2 acres in the area of 6th Avenue, a purchase that had been in discussion for years.

92.7 WOBM and Gateway Toyota of Toms River honor Analise Piemonte of Donovan Catholic High School as the Student of the Week.  Ranked fifth in her class she is President of the Senior Class, President of the Mission Club, Recording Secretary for the National Honor Society, and a member of Student Council.

A Varsity Cheer Captain she is involved in the performing arts as a production manager, dance captain, and lead and has earned the Christian Service Bronze Award.  Hoping to study Broadcast Journalism at Syracuse University is Analise Piemonteour Ocean County Student of the Week.

Manasquan blanks Toms River North – Boys ice hockey – Toms River Tourney

Shay Keating struck twice while Braden Ryan dished two assists as Manasquan shut down Toms River North, 7-0, in the first round of the Winding River Tournament in Toms River.

Dean Mykelbust, Grant Smith and James Farinacci added a goal and an assist apiece while Brandan Kearney and Matt Barth each chipped in a goal for Manasquan (2-4-1).

Toms River North is now 2-4-1.

Ping pong club for people with Parkinson’s disease bounces back in NJ after long hiatus

Just when Parkinson’s disease patients were starting to learn the ins and outs of ping pong and how it could help them in everyday life, the pandemic forced them to put down their paddles for more than a year and a half.

Ping Pong Parkinson, a non-profit that aims to help people with Parkinson’s disease regain mobility and flexibility through table tennis, had opened for the first time in New Jersey last February in Westwood. After a few weeks, however, they were forced to stop meeting due to the pandemic and later lost their venue completely when Wang Chen Table Tennis Club closed.

Recently driving on Route 9 in Toms River I noticed that the old 7-11 was still vacant and waiting for a new tenant, of course the question is who and/or what?

This is a heavily traveled area, but like many 7-11 in Ocean County, things just didn’t work out. This one is a tough fit, I feel, because you not only have a convenience store…but a gas station as well. Whenever we see these stations closed the initial thought is “underground tanks”. These tanks pose a potential environmental issue and are also expensive to clean, remove or replace. This can definitely cause issues for potential future tenants.

In my opinion, this would be the perfect spot for Trader Joe’s in Toms River.

It’s a Toms River address 9 Flint Road. But, I think of it in the South Toms River section. But, it would be the perfect location for Toms River residents and Beachwood, Pine Beach, and Bayville residents and we wouldn’t have to drive to Brick to get to a Trader Joe’s.

The building was once home to a motorcycle shop or bike shop and I believe it was once Amish Furniture if I’m not mistaken. The building is for sale.

Boys basketball: McKelvey scores game winner as Toms River East edges Barnegat

Sophomore Jason McKelvey sank the game-winning basket with four seconds left to help lift Toms River East to a 46-54 win over Barnegat in Toms River.

Junior Dylan Russell, was was marked by two defenders, found McKelvey under the basket for a quick moment uncovered, resulting in an easy layup for Toms River East (1-3) for their first victory of the season.

Watching Construction On a New Business Warehouse on Route 9 in Toms River, New Jersey

So this is an interesting new construction project in Ocean County. It’s a new warehouse project that is taking place along Route 9 in Toms River Township.

The work is being done by Tilt-Up Bedrock Concrete Corp, based in Sayerville, New Jersey. They are doing this project at 1930 Lakewood Road, Toms River, NJ

Toms River Lit Up For the Holiday Season

TOMS RIVER – The yuletide season returned to the township with the community’s annual tree lighting which featured fun, food, music and a visit from the Kringles.

Live entertainment included a variety of musical performances culminating with the illumination of the large tree in front of Town Hall on Washington Street and the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus. They traded in a sleigh for a Toms River Fire Co. # 1 fire truck. The Kringle couple helped light the tree and had their photos taken with children.
