NJ SNOWFALL TOTALS: Winter storm drops a foot of snow on parts of New Jersey

A winter storm dumped a significant amount of snow on the Mid-Atlantic states on Monday, with some parts of New Jersey getting more than a foot of accumulation.

The National Weather Service had posted a winter storm warning for much of the southern coast of New Jersey, running from Cape May all the way to Toms River in Ocean County. The warning has since expired.

Toms River Schools Closed Because Of Winter Storm

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Regional School District announced it is closed for Monday ahead of a winter storm that is predicted to bring at least 4 inches of snow to Ocean County.

The district make the announcement early Monday morning.

“Due to inclement weather, Monday Jan. 3, 2022 is a snow day and all schools will be closed,” the notice on the district’s website said.

We’ll catch a 36 to 48 hour stretch of mainly dry and mild weather, lasting through the rest of 2021. But rain will return soon enough — the precursor to a big transition by next week.

Thursday will progress from wet to dry. Friday is still looking good, and could be our warmest New Year’s Eve in at least a decade. On Saturday, we’ll kick off 2022 by getting soaked. And then the chance of rain will eventually transition to windy, colder weather on Sunday.

NEW JERSEY — As the number of new coronavirus cases continues to surge in New Jersey, some parents are expressing concerns about sending students back to school on Monday.

The state Department of Health on Wednesday reported there were 20,483 new positive PCR test results. From Dec. 22 through Wednesday, the state has seen 98,652 new positive cases of the virus, as the state monitors both the delta and the omicron variants.

WALMART IN LINDEN, NJ IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED

LINDEN — The Walmart store on Routes 1&9 temporarily closed on Tuesday but a spokeswoman denied a report it was because of employees who have gotten sick.

If you’re like my family, hosting others is a thing.  It’s an important part of the holiday season.  When you have Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and then New Year’s Eve all within a week, the preparation is a bit exhausting.

Now, granted, Christmas Eve is more of a family affair.  While New Year’s Eve is less about family and more for a big celebration.  Usually, in a non-covid year, you would call up friends, get a sitter, and head out the door for a night of fun.  This year seems a little different.  People are definitely more cautious.   So what to do?  Even if you have a small gathering at the house takes some preparation.  What’s the biggest undertaking?  Food.
