Residents fight Toms River, NJ law that could lower home values (Opinion)

in Toms River News

Late last year the Township Council in Toms River led by Mayor Mo Hill adopted an ordinance that increases the fees paid by home sellers and potentially jeopardizes the sale altogether.

In addition to the inspections typically sought by buyers before closing on a house and banks before committing financing, the township requires another layer.

Council Member Justin Lamb — who is also a police officer — is fighting back. He joined me on air to discuss some of the reasons why homeowners and real estate professionals are up in arms over the ordinance.

Good News: This Popular New Jersey Grocery is Cutting Prices

in Toms River News

I went to the grocery store last week with my wife, and after getting a solid shopping cart full of meat, produce snacks, and other things it came out to be about $120.

Not the craziest grocery bill we’ve ever had, but usually, we’re able to keep it under $100 dollars.

Being a household of two helps with that, but even still we’ve noticed the steady increase in cost over the past few months.

Jake’s Got This! Jackson, NJ based non-profit helping those like Jake with cerebral palsy

in Toms River News

In baseball, when a player returns from the paternity list and hits a home run or has a big day at the plate it is a shared belief that it must be ‘Dad Strength’ these players have after the birth of a son or daughter.

There is also such a thing as ‘Mom Strength’ and it doesn’t always involve an athlete but our everyday mom’s who jump over as many hurdles on the track as it takes to get their child the help and services they need, to make sure they’re alright, and nothing will stop them from achieving their mission, they’ll do whatever it takes.

There are so many moms out there in our own communities who’ve shown ‘Mom Strength’ not only to their son or daughter but to others out there as well through a non-profit or by just sharing their’s and their son’s or daughter’s story.

Toms River Regional urged to bring back Columbus Day holiday for students

in Toms River News

TOMS RIVER – No, Toms River Regional leaders insist, they are not “canceling” Columbus Day by removing it as a holiday from this year’s school district calendar.

Leaders of some Italian-American organizations have strongly criticized the move, even after being told by Superintendent Mike Citta that lessons about Christopher Columbus and Italian heritage will continue to be taught in district classrooms.

They say that eliminating the holiday for students helps feed the growing nationwide controversy that has surrounded the commemoration of the day in 1492 that explorer Christopher Columbus made landfall in the “New World.”

How much NJ schools actually spend on teaching students: A rank of all districts

in Toms River News

TRENTON – Total spending per student in New Jersey’s public schools increased 7.1% during the 2020-21 school year, according to the annual spending report published by the state.

The statewide average was $24,543.

That measurement is more than the budgetary cost per pupil that districts advertise when publishing their user-friendly budget each spring. The budgetary total excludes costs that are not directly comparable between districts such as transportation, debt for school construction and tuition payments for out-of-district programs.
