Here’s where to get free breast cancer screenings across New Jersey this month

in Toms River News

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey are hosting free breast cancer screenings and education programs across the state. The aim is to educate women about the importance of early detection and breast health, and offer free and accessible mammograms for those who qualify.

Early detection, regular screenings, and breast health education can save lives, but the CDC reports that nearly 30% of women miss their annual mammogram, according to a release from both groups.

“Annual screenings are some of the most important tools we have in the fight against breast cancer,” says Dr. M. Michelle Blackwood, Chief of Breast Surgery at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and Director of Breast Health and Disease Management at RWJBarnabas Health. “Early detection of breast cancer significantly increases survival rates and outcomes, which is why we strongly encourage women age 40 and over make getting a mammogram a top priority. Doing so could save your life.”

Halloween has become such a popular holiday over the years and many of us love all kinds of things about Halloween. Maybe it’s the candy when trick or treating, dressing up in costume, being scared, the tv specials and movies, and decorating for Halloween. Whatever it is you like, it’s a popular time of year and it’s upon us again.

This year I am all set, almost, for Halloween. I have some new Halloween socks. So I think now that we are just a couple of weeks from Halloween, we are in good shape to enjoy ourselves.

There is a new Halloween attraction that is open right here in Ocean County and I reached out to them to see if I could share a view into this new Halloween attraction. It’s called the Halloween House and it’s located at the Ocean County Mall 1201 Hooper Avenue in Toms River.

How a 12-foot skeleton became the hottest Halloween decoration around

in Toms River News

There are two kinds of people: those who understand the allure of a 12-foot skeleton decoration, and those who have yet to understand the allure of a 12-foot skeleton decoration.

Fall beckons the arrival of the Home Depot skeleton, a massive Halloween yard decoration that first hit the market in 2020 and has captivated imaginations ever since. Affectionately known as Skelly, the looming figure is now a mascot of sorts for those who delight in the gothic excesses of Halloween decor.

Why so many people identify with this creature – enough to snatch up entire inventories in hours and spawn a whole skeleton black market in the process – is a question best left to a higher power. Perhaps Skelly is a bridge between the extremes of our human nature; sorrow and joy, famine and excess, the sacred and the profane encased together in high-density polyethylene.
