NJ turning rainy, windy, and then much colder: 6 things to know

in Toms River News

The Bottom Line

We face several hours of steady (if not heavy) rain Friday morning. Along with elevated winds, making for some nasty (and maybe even stormy) weather.

This is the first step in a big transition, driven by a strong cold front. As the sun comes out Friday afternoon, temperatures will start to tumble.

This weekend is going to feel much more November-ish. If not December-ish, by early next week. And there will be some rain and possibly snow showers around this weekend too.

TWO MORE SUMMER-ISH DAYS, THEN TWO DAMP AND DREARY DAYS

in Toms River News

Only eight more days of summer left before we “fall” into autumn. And as we look at the rest of this week, we’re looking at two more warm, humid, relatively pleasant days for Tuesday and Wednesday. That will be followed by a 36-hour period of unsettled, damp, and dreary weather for Thursday and Friday. So we face inclement, but not particularly dangerous, weather at times through the weekend. Rain, wind, and clouds are in the forecast, no matter where in the state you are. Having said that, we will salvage some breaks of dry weather, especially early Saturday and late Sunday.

In this case, I purposefully differentiate between calling the weather “very warm” and “hot”. Bottom line: I don’t call it “hot” unless widespread temperatures and/or heat indices top 90 degrees.

By that definition, Tuesday will be very warm. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be hot. Perhaps dangerously hot.

New Jersey’s last heat wave was a full three weeks ago. Heat warnings and advisories kick in around midday Wednesday. And the swelter won’t break until the start of the upcoming weekend.
