East’s Rockets Flew Too High To Catch This Season

TOMS RIVER – The Toms River Intermediate East baseball team enjoyed a season to remember.

The Rockets were 12-0 overall and won the Ocean County Intermediate Athletic League Red Division title at 8-0. They captured the Red Division championship last season at 7-1 en route to a 10-2 record.

Baseball Team that Plays in Honor of Fallen Troopers Presents Special Gift to Family Member of Trooper Werner Foerster

On May 22, the Blue Knights Little League Baseball team presented Josie Manfre-Morey, niece of Trooper Werner Foerster, with a signed baseball from the team prior to their game against the North Wall Little League in Wall, N.J. The Blue Knights are from Toms River and each player honors the State Police by wearing on their uniform, the badge number of a trooper killed in the line of duty.

How Blue Jays beating aided Ron Marinaccio’s journey from Toms River, N.J. to Yankees bullpen

TAMPA — The Yankees threw one of their wet-behind-the-ears relievers to some of the biggest and baddest baseball wolves during their March 23 spring training game in Dunedin.

The Toronto Blue Jays had most of their scary lineup in that day and the top of the lineup was coming up when hard-throwing righty Ron Marinaccio entered to pitch the bottom of the fourth with the Yanks trailing 4-1.

What went down over this long inning, one in which the Jays roughed up Marinaccio for five unearned runs, became an important learning experience that helped key the Toms River product’s successful quest for a first big-league opportunity as a member of the Yankees’ season-opening bullpen.

Toms River Field Of Dreams Begins To Take Shape

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Christian Kane stood on the dirt under the pavilion, looking over the complex for the Toms River Field of Dreams.

“Looks different from the last time you saw it, doesn’t it?” he said, a smile spreading across his face for the hundreth time as the progress — tangible progress — on the complex was unveiled to donors at a recent gathering at the complex on North Bay Avenue.
