Toms River says it already complies with state sick leave policy after critical report

TOMS RIVER – Toms River’s latest employee contracts do not allow workers to be paid for unused sick time, a change township officials have explained in response to a state comptroller report on retirement payouts.

The state report found that 57 of the 60 towns that were investigated had violated some part of the 2007 New Jersey reforms that  capped how much a town could pay out to employees upon retirement.

The second class of residents will consist of 12 residents in Internal Medicine, 13 in Emergency Medicine, three in Podiatry and four in General Surgery, a new area of training being offered for the first time this year.

NJ plan for child care shortage starts with $28M for grants

TRENTON – One portion of a nine-bill package aimed at improving child care in New Jersey made it through the Legislature before its summer recess, providing $28 million for competitive grants for infant and toddler programs.

The Thriving By Three Act, as the grant program is called, passed nearly unanimously and was quickly signed into law in conjunction with the rest of the state’s 2023 budget. It’s not yet clear how quickly the applications for grant funding will be made available.
