Clam Fest in Highlands and more things to do this week at the Jersey Shore

As I get older the coasters get better and better and I get a little nervous standing in line.

We are lucky, we have so many cool places in Ocean County that have some awesome rides from the boardwalks to Six Flags Great Adventure.

Abby and her friends chose a lot of these as her favorites here at the Shore. Abby is my 17-year-old and loves roller coasters. A day at Six Flags and the boardwalk with her friends is a little piece of happiness.

Toms River Girl Scout Earns $10K Gold Award Scholarship

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Vivianna Onofrietti loves to read. She loves the peace it can bring, the laughter, and the surprise that can be packed into a good book.

“I believe reading truly enhances a person’s life,” Vivianna said, after learning she had earned a $10,000 scholarship honoring her work in bringing books to children who are homeless or in domestic violence shelters.

Vivianna, a Toms River resident, recently completed her Girl Scout Gold Award project, earning the highest honor in Girl Scouts for her project to build book stations made from wood to hold more than 1,250 multi-level donated books for those children, a project titled “Better with Books.”

New Jersey’s Sales Tax Holiday — What is included and what is not

As New Jersey parents begin to turn their attention to back to school time, Gov. Phil Murphy and Democrats in the legislature are again touting a tax holiday on school supplies.

The tax holiday was first introduced as part of the state budget in 2022.

For ten days beginning August 26, a wide variety of school supplies and equipment will be exempt from New Jersey’s 6.625% sales tax.
