Ramen, when done right, can be a delicacy. Ramen has roots. It’s a Japanese noodle soup that consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat or fish-based broth and often flavored with soy sauce or miso. Toppings like sliced pork, nori, and scallions are also popular.

Meet Wayne Carrington. Wayne has had a very interesting life. He was a New York City police officer and executive for Five Guys. According to a profile from APP.com, Wayne’s love of Ramen came from watching the Brittany Murphy movie “The Ramen Girl.”

Blood Donations Needed In Toms River Area: Red Cross Drive Coming Up Soon

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Red Cross urged people to donate blood as wildfires and record-breaking heat drive donations down. A projected busy hurricane season will likely shrink donations even further.

All types of blood donations are needed, but there is an especially large demand for Type O.

The plea for donations comes at a time when the country is experiencing high demand for blood transfusions. Hospitals are treating a high number of traumatic injuries this summer. Organ transplants and elective surgeries also increased the urgent need for blood products.

Toms River East getting used to COVID-19 bubble life at LLWS regional

Before the pandemic, children playing Little League baseball often would greet their parents with a hug after games. Now, children sit at a picnic table and acknowledge their parents — standing at a distance — with a wave.

As COVID-19 continues to drastically alter the world, Little League is no different. At the Mid-Atlantic Region tournament in Bristol, Conn., Toms River East of New Jersey is battling not only its competition, but also strict COVID-19 protocols.

“It’s crazy with the parents. We see [the kids] on the field and after the game you want to hug them,” Charlie Frazier Jr., father of Toms River East’s pitcher, center fielder, shortstop and first baseman, Carson Frazier, told The Post. “My wife [Mindy] wants to squeeze Carson so badly. After the game, we go to the back of the complex to a special area. They have to sit on a table and we stand like 10 feet away and they have to wear a mask. You have all the moms yelling, ‘Hey great hit, are you keeping your clothes neat?’”

Toms River advances Ortley Beach Surf Club purchase. Where it stands

TOMS RIVER — The township has taken another step toward the long-anticipated purchase of the former Joey Harrison’s Surf Club property.

Council members agreed Tuesday to use $685,000 in open space funds to help acquire the property.

The monies will be a part of the approximately $8 million that will be used to purchase the Surf Club site in Ortley Beach, and two adjacent properties, including a parking lot. The state is expected to pay the large majority of the cost — $6.6 million — which will come from Blue Acres funds used by New Jersey to purchase land in the flood plain.

Tuesday NJ weather: The difference between ‘very warm’ and ‘hot’

My weather forecasts play on radio stations across New Jersey over 200 times a day. So needless to say, I select the words in my forecast very carefully. In this case, I purposefully differentiate between calling the weather “very warm” and “hot”. Bottom line: I don’t call it “hot” unless widespread temperatures and/or heat indices top 90 degrees.

By that definition, Tuesday will be very warm. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be hot. Perhaps dangerously hot.

New Jersey’s last heat wave was a full three weeks ago. Heat warnings and advisories kick in around midday Wednesday. And the swelter won’t break until the start of the upcoming weekend.

Engineer turned author inspires with his own story

In the early months of 2014, the onset of leg weakness drew Dr. Hira Ahluwalia into a deep medical investigation to determine the root cause of this seemingly small problem and to receive a formal diagnosis for his symptoms. An extensive process that would end up lasting nearly two years, finally resulted in the devastating diagnosis of ALS. Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS is known to cause progressive muscle weakness and impacts one’s ability to physically function, with no cure currently available.

Known to many as “Doctor Metals”, Ahluwalia is a corrosion expert and was heavily involved in the community. A diagnosis of ALS would surely mean quitting his job right? Wrong. Ahluwalia decided to not only continue working, but also began writing a book chronicling his experiences with the disease. Keep on Ticking: One Man’s Approach to Chronic Progressive Disease was self-published in 2021 and offers an inspirational glimpse in the fascinating life of a corrosion and materials consultant turned author.

Is it Really? Is the Buzz True? Chick-fil-A Finally Coming to Toms River, NJ

I can’t even believe it, I’ve been writing for years we need another Chick-fil-A in Ocean County, other than Brick, and it might be happening.

Recently I wrote an article about Ocean County needing another Chick-fil-A. I believe it was last week. There’s one in Brick. One would be awesome in Lacey, Bayville, Beachwood, Toms River, possibly Manahawkin. I’m tired of waiting in line at the one in Brick. Everyone in NEW JERSEY is at the Chick-fil-A in Brick when I’m waiting in line. I’ve waited over an hour already. I know you’ve waited in line and thought the same thing, “Why isn’t there another one.” Since Covid, I think it’s busier than ever in the line. One on Rt. 37 in Toms River would be great? How about somewhere on Rt. 9?
