Toms River Self Storage Facility Just Over Bridge Gets OK for Expansion

A self-storage facility near the eastern end of Route 37 in Toms River has received approval to expand.

The township’s planning board approved a plan by Extra Space Storage, Inc. to expand their facility at 3200 Route 37 West, located just east of the turn-off onto Fischer Boulevard.

The approval, memorialized late last month, permits the Extra Space to construct a new, three-story mini warehouse self-storage building of 39,050 square feet to be used in conjunction with the existing Extra Space Storage warehouse operation on the property, along with associated parking, stormwater, landscaping and related site improvements.

Boys Indoor Track: Westfield Claims Third Straight Sectional Title

The newly crowned Union County champions added another trophy to the school’s case on Saturday.

Westfield’s boys indoor track team claimed the NJSIAA North 2, Group 4 Sectional Championship at Rothman Orthopaedic Sports Complex in Toms River.

The Blue Devils posted a team score of 97, 49 points ahead of second-place Ridge (48) and third-place Elizabeth (38.75). Piscataway (36) and Bridgewater-Raritan HS (25) rounded out the top five.

From drug addicted and living under the boardwalk to managing Toms River homeless shelter

Earlier this month, as the temperature plummeted into the teens, a homeless woman in an agitated state came into the “Code Blue” emergency overnight shelter at the Riverwood Park recreation center.

“She was extremely intoxicated,” shelter manager Kevin McKenna said. “She had a rough day out there, she was angry and she was drinking.”

McKenna helped her calm down. She didn’t stay the night, but she returned the following evening in better condition.
