It is cold, maybe not as cold as some New Jersey winters, but it’s still cold.

These restaurants will make you feel good that you actually got out and enjoyed a night out. These are warm and cozy, the atmosphere that we absolutely need right now.

Most of these spectacular restaurants I have been to. Some of these restaurants have fireplaces. They are inviting, especially in the winter. Cozy to me reminds me of that warm feeling when you walk into a place.

bb.q chicken, Bayonne

The new bb.q Chicken, which also opened spots in Neptune and Westwood earlier in 2022, has now set up shop in Bayonne. With a two-day marination and frying process that keeps the chicken extra crispy, even with the sauce, the most popular varieties are the Golden Original, Secret Sauce, and honey garlic. Be sure to try the just-released Maple Crunch variety as well.

Navigating the rough economic seas of 2021 was no small feat for restaurants globally and locally, and we were lucky that many suited up, bravely weathered the storm, and sailed us to the other side. As unfortunate as it was to see several well-loved and institutional establishments across the state close up shop, it also opened the doors for fresh concepts, remixes and revivals to enter the dining landscape.

While there’s no replacing exactly what was, the excitement of what has recently landed and what’s in the New Jersey pipeline has my stomach grumbling in anticipation. To celebrate this joyous new year and beginning, we’re ringing it in with 22 of the Garden State’s very recently opened and upcoming restaurants for 2022.
