BRISTOL, Conn – The dream of returning to the Little League World Series for the second straight year is now just one win away for Toms River East.

The drive to reach Williamsport, Pa. for New Jersey’s champion 12-year-olds continued Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory over Fairfield (Conn.) American in a Metro Region semifinal at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center.

It’s all part of Toms River baseball’s circle of life.

Take Dave Capello, who got his first taste of it back in 1995. That’s when, as an 8-year-old, he watched the Toms River East Little League team make it to the World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Leading the way was Jeff Frazier, whose father happened to grow up with Capello’s dad in Whippany.

After five innings of shutout baseball in Toms River East’s state championship game against Rutherford Little League, starting pitcher Logan Macchia was cruising along. But pitchers always are looking over their shoulder. He noticed someone was warming up.
