Halloween Harvest Hoedown is a scary fun time

in Toms River Events

As a full moon rose in the sky, trickers, treaters and ghouls of all ages came out in full force last Friday night, filling Lavallette with an eerily festive atmosphere for all to enjoy.

The night was heavily family-oriented, not lacking in fun activities for younger hoedowners to do. The fun began for the extra-smallest Lavallette resident with a concert and “silly sing-along” with musician Yosi Levin at the borough’s elementary school.

While the treats were provided by Jersey Mike’s Subs and served by the mayor and council, the day’s tricks were conjured up by Magician John “Mr. Magico” Carlson, who gave a performance including balloon animals and sleight-of-hand.

Why NJ should have Halloween weekend instead of changing the day

in Toms River Events/Toms River News

Halloween is almost upon us in New Jersey. That one night when we get to dress up any way we want and go door-to-door collecting enough candy that’ll last us into the new year.

Every year, however, there seems to be some debate regarding the exact date of Halloween. Maybe not so much about the date of October 31, but when precisely it should be celebrated.

There have been talks lately about some New Jersey towns hosting Halloween on a day other than October 31. Trick-or-treating, to be more precise.

Here is why there is no trick or treating in Toms River on Halloween

in Toms River News

TOMS RIVER – To newcomers, it likely seems bizarre: trick or treating in Toms River and several surrounding towns will be held on Oct. 30, instead of on Halloween.

The reason? The 84th edition of Toms River Fire Co. 1’s Halloween Parade will march in the downtown on Oct. 31, Halloween night.

Toms River and surrounding river towns, including Pine Beach, Beachwood and South Toms River, have long held trick or treating on the day before Halloween to allow kids to get treats and also participate in the parade.

in Toms River News

The Toms River Halloween Parade, a cherished tradition hosted by the esteemed Toms River Fire Company No. 1, is once again upon us, marking the approach of Halloween with a spectacular display of creativity and community spirit that has graced the streets for decades.

Mark your calendars for the 84th annual Halloween parade, set to take place on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Additionally, South Toms River, Pine Beach, and Beachwood are also planning trick-or-treating on October 30.

According to TomRiver.org, what began as a humble local municipal Halloween event in 1937 has evolved into the world’s second-largest Halloween parade, recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Is Toms River The Best Halloween Town in New Jersey?

in Toms River News

So Halloween is right around the corner and it’s one of the most popular holidays of the year. Millions will dress up, attend parties, trick or treat, attend attractions, and attend parades. Halloween is fun and it’s all about great costumes and candy. Yes for some it’s also a good scare. There are plenty of Halloween attractions around New Jersey that will definitely give you a good shock.

My question is, with so much going on in New Jersey, what is the best Halloween town in the Garden State? I see many towns mentioned by various publications as “the best” Halloween town, but I think we have to consider Toms River, right here in Ocean County as the “best” for Halloween fun.

One of my strongest points to nominate Toms River as Jersey’s Halloween town is the annual Halloween Parade. According to Google “Toms River Halloween Parade is the 2nd largest in the world according to Guinness Book of World Records!” Now that’s not just 2nd largest in New Jersey, 2nd largest in America, it’s the second largest Halloween parade in the world! Only the Greenich Village Halloween Parade in New York City is bigger. So just this fact alone, makes Toms River the Halloween hot spot for me here in New Jersey.

Halloween has become such a popular holiday over the years and many of us love all kinds of things about Halloween. Maybe it’s the candy when trick or treating, dressing up in costume, being scared, the tv specials and movies, and decorating for Halloween. Whatever it is you like, it’s a popular time of year and it’s upon us again.

This year I am all set, almost, for Halloween. I have some new Halloween socks. I have a few new Halloween shirts and April and I are invited to a costume party and we are in the process of looking for a costume we can do together as a couple. So I think now that we are just a couple of weeks from Halloween, we are in good shape to enjoy ourselves.

There is a new Halloween attraction that is open right here in Ocean County and I reached out to them to see if I could share a view into this new Halloween attraction. It’s called the Halloween House and it’s located at the Ocean County Mall 1201 Hooper Avenue in Toms River.
