Emmy Award Noms For Toms River ‘Field Of Dreams’ Doc

TOMS RIVER, NJ – A Toms River recreation park for special needs children that opened last year is the subject of two documentaries that were recently nominated for New York Emmy Awards.

ABC’s “Field of Dreams is Heaven on Earth for Special Needs Families,” which centers around the Toms River park, has been nominated for the Societal Concerns- Short Form Content; the PBS/News12 production “Field of Dreams” is up for the Sports Story-News prize.\

Family in Toms River inspired by son to build “Field of Dreams”

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (CBS) — A Toms River family’s 12-year-old son inspired them to build a “field of dreams” for children of all abilities.

The RWJ Barnabas Health Field of Dreams, located at 1505 N Bay Ave in Toms River, is an all-inclusive playground featuring specialized equipment that allows children of all abilities to play together.

Christian Kane, a co-founder of the park, said the complex was inspired by Gavin Kane, his 12-year-old son.

Toms River Field of Dreams Set to Open in November

TOMS RIVER, New Jersey- Although most playgrounds are accessible for people with disabilities, a new park currently under construction in Toms River, is looking to become a model for inclusive playgrounds across the country.

The Toms River Field of Dreams is a passion project for the Kane family, they’ve been working on it for four years.

The need for this complex stems back to their son Gavin, who has special needs, due to a car accident that happened on July 12th, 2012.
