When Christian Kane, a math teacher at Toms River High School North, describes the recently opened RWJ Barnabas Health Field of Dreams in Toms River, one expects him to lean into the fact that the $3.6 million complex he spearheaded is “unlike anything else in the country.” But for Kane, it’s an emotional story about a special place for people with special needs, not a comparative statistical claim to put Toms River on the map.

Toms River Field of Dreams Set to Open in November

TOMS RIVER, New Jersey- Although most playgrounds are accessible for people with disabilities, a new park currently under construction in Toms River, is looking to become a model for inclusive playgrounds across the country.

The Toms River Field of Dreams is a passion project for the Kane family, they’ve been working on it for four years.

The need for this complex stems back to their son Gavin, who has special needs, due to a car accident that happened on July 12th, 2012.
