Bed & Breakfast Approved at Toms River ‘Victorian Mansion,’ Tour Planned Next Week

The township’s planning board recently memorialized its decision to grant approval to a local entrepreneur seeking to open a Bed and Breakfast in a historic home in Downtown Toms River.

The home, located at 801 Main Street, was built in 1888, according to deed records registered at the Ocean County Clerk’s office. The B&B would be known as “Huddy House,” and operated by Vicki Weiss- Ippolito, who also owns the popular Mathis House Victorian Bed & Breakfast and Victorian Tea Room, also located on Main Street.

2024 United States Super 8 Film + Digital Video Festival Award Winners

We had a very nice 36th Annual United States Super 8 Film + DV Festival over the last two days although the in-person screening on Saturday was cancelled due to a major snowstorm that hit Central Jersey. Luckily folks could still see the program online. Attendance was good and it looks like we will break even financially which is important for us to keep running this Festival. Many thanks to Phil and Rhonda Vigeant as well as Jaclyn Melo of Pro 8mm and Sara Leavitt at Icarus Films/OVID for sponsoring our Festival again and providing the prizes for the Best of Festival winners. The local icon known as the “The Answer” isn’t just throwing punches anymore; he’s throwing history. This summer, the mixed martial arts (MMA) legend will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame’s “Modern Wing,” solidifying his place among the sport’s elite.

The “Modern Era” category recognizes fighters who turned professional after November 17, 2000, marking the adoption of unified MMA rules. Additionally, inductees must be at least 35 or retired for a year or more. Edgar, who retired in 2022 at 40, perfectly fits the criteria.

But even before the 2024 season gets underway, spring training begins February 22, with the season for Major League Baseball officially kicking off March 28. Needless to say, baseball fans everywhere are getting excited.

Toms River gala ‘just the kickoff’ to include people with disabilities in the fun

Friday night was special for David Barozzie. The 15-year-old from Toms River got to dress up, make a grand entrance along a red carpet and enjoy the food and music of a gala with all the trappings. He was feted like royalty, and he wasn’t alone.

David, who has Down syndrome, was among 120 teens and adults with special needs who were honored guests at “Night to Shine.” Presbyterian Church of Toms River hosted the event, which took place simultaneously at hundreds of churches around the world.

“For my son to go to a prom like this is unreal,” David’s mother Jenn Barozzie said. “It’s a beautiful thing.”

Toms River Football Phenom Invited by New York Giants to Attend Super Bowl LVIII

Jaelyne Matthews, the standout offensive lineman for the state champion High School North Mariners, is set to represent New Jersey at the Super Bowl LVIII festivities in Las Vegas. The invitation, extended by the New York Giants and Nike, makes Matthews one of only 33 high school athletes nationwide to participate in this prestigious event.

The announcement was made today at High School North by Ethan Medley, the New York Giants Director of Community Relations and Youth Football. Medley presented Matthews with a Giants jersey featuring his last name and a matted plaque commemorating the invitation. The presentation was celebrated with performances by the school’s cheerleaders and band.
