Navigating the rough economic seas of 2021 was no small feat for restaurants globally and locally, and we were lucky that many suited up, bravely weathered the storm, and sailed us to the other side. As unfortunate as it was to see several well-loved and institutional establishments across the state close up shop, it also opened the doors for fresh concepts, remixes and revivals to enter the dining landscape.

While there’s no replacing exactly what was, the excitement of what has recently landed and what’s in the New Jersey pipeline has my stomach grumbling in anticipation. To celebrate this joyous new year and beginning, we’re ringing it in with 22 of the Garden State’s very recently opened and upcoming restaurants for 2022.

Toms River Schools Closed Jan. 7 For Snow Day

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Regional School District will be closed Friday because of the second storm in a week that was depositing snow across the area.

The district updated its decision early Friday. Snow began falling about 1 a.m. and by 5 a.m. many roads were covered with a layer of white.

Many people who rent, rent out or live in homes in Toms River that were damaged by Superstorm Sandy requiring repairs, and in some cases rebuilds, are being told to elevate their structure by a certain amount by FEMA who is reportedly using outdated flood maps.

These residents received letters in November of 2021 from FEMA informing them they had to elevate their homes based on flood risk maps that haven’t been updated in a long time.

NJ SNOWFALL TOTALS: Winter storm drops a foot of snow on parts of New Jersey

A winter storm dumped a significant amount of snow on the Mid-Atlantic states on Monday, with some parts of New Jersey getting more than a foot of accumulation.

The National Weather Service had posted a winter storm warning for much of the southern coast of New Jersey, running from Cape May all the way to Toms River in Ocean County. The warning has since expired.

Toms River Schools Closed Because Of Winter Storm

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Regional School District announced it is closed for Monday ahead of a winter storm that is predicted to bring at least 4 inches of snow to Ocean County.

The district make the announcement early Monday morning.

“Due to inclement weather, Monday Jan. 3, 2022 is a snow day and all schools will be closed,” the notice on the district’s website said.
