Toms River Planning 70 Jet-Ski Ports at Huddy Park, ‘Seaport’ Theme Nearby

in Toms River News

The administration of Mayor Dan Rodrick is seeking to make good on plans to revive a themed “seaport” district in downtown Toms River, beginning with a project to install about 70 jet-ski ports at Huddy Park and build a dock that will allow boaters to access restaurants and businesses downtown.

The jet-ski ports will be funded utilizing a state recreation grant of about $500,000 that had been slated by the previous administration to install siding and make improvements to the Shogun restaurant at the Bey Lea golf course. Shogun Legacy, a high-end Japanese fusion restaurant, operates the facility but it is owned by the township. The borough council, after a significant bout of arguing in which at least one person was ejected from the meeting, voted this week to reject bids for the restaurant improvements and redirect the funding to the park.

Proof That New Jersey Has The Best Breakfast Sandwiches In The Country

in Toms River News

New Jersey has basically ruined breakfast foods for me, so thanks a lot for that.

What I mean by that is that breakfast foods in New Jersey are so good that any time I get my “usual” when I travel, it pales in comparison and just leaves me disappointed.

In Jersey, my usual is a Pork Roll egg and cheese on a hard roll, no salt, no pepper, no ketchup.

Toms River Getting $1 Million For Ortley Beach Boardwalk Repairs

in Toms River News

When people think of Toms River, a boardwalk is usually not the first thing that comes to mind. After all, the boardwalk is across the Mathis Bridge in Seaside Heights. However, any longtime Toms River resident knows we do have a boardwalk of our own. In Ortley Beach. The Ortley boardwalk is the responsibility of Toms River. Now, the township has been awarded a $1 million grant by the state for repairs to the boardwalk structures and access in Ortley Beach.

According to a news release from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, the award is part of $100 million in grants awarded to communities along the Jersey Shore to address critical needs for township boardwalks. Furthermore, Toms River is one of 18 towns to receive the grant funding. The news release goes on to state that this funding aims to help Jersey Shore communities remain vibrant tourism destinations in the long term. They will do so by investing in state-of-the-art materials that increase storm resiliency and ensure longer lasting infrastructure. Super Storm Sandy destroyed the Ortley Boardwalk in 2013. Since that rebuild, the area has seen its beach access ramps repeatedly damaged by nor’easters and other strong storms. These have caused further erosion of the beach.
