Toms River Junior Police Camp Accepting Applications For 2024

The Toms River Police Department is accepting applications for its 2024 Junior Police Camp.

The camp, for sixth, seventh and eighth graders, is held during the summer. There are 60 available spots in the camp, which is free, and the participants will be chosen via a lottery of all the applicants.

The camp gives children an inside look at our police department and law enforcement as a whole. Campers get to ride in police cars, use specialized police equipment, learn self-defense tactics, and they do physical fitness activities.

Toms River High School North Senior Awarded $180,000 Navy ROTC Scholarship

In a proud moment for Toms River High School North, senior Carlos Estevez has been awarded a Navy ROTC Scholarship valued at $180,000. The scholarship was presented to Estevez in a modest ceremony held at the school’s Maria Ressa Auditorium, attended by his mother Danielle, several Naval and ROTC officials, and school leadership.

Estevez, contemplating his future academic journey, is considering the Virginia Military Institute and the US Naval Academy as his top choices for further education, supported by the scholarship funds.

Feeling Like a Kid Again: Friendly’s New Spring Menu

Before writing this article, I hadn’t stepped foot in a Friendly’s in years. I remember loving their ice cream as a kid. No summer party at my house was complete without a Friendly’s watermelon roll ice cream cake! and I can still remember those catchy “I Wanna Go to Friendly’s” commercials. Getting to visit the Toms River location to taste the new spring menu brought it all back.

Founded almost 90 years ago, beloved ice cream manufacturer Friendly’s has humble beginnings. When Friendly’s first opened, it was a small, standalone ice cream shop in Springfield, Massachusetts. The founders were the Blake brothers, who were just 18 and 20 years old at the time.

Toms River Police Department Hiring Special Law Enforcement Officers

The Toms River Police Department announced it is actively seeking applicants for the role of Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II. This call is open to individuals with a current SLEO II certification from a New Jersey Police Training Commission-approved police academy.

Additionally, the department welcomes applications from retired police officers who have concluded their service in good standing. Retired officers must have received appropriate training and meet the qualifications outlined in N.J.S.A. 40A:14-146 to be considered.
