Alex Pereira, Danbury resident, wins UFC middleweight title at MSG

in Toms River News

NEW YORK (AP) — Alex Pereira has Israel Adesanya’s number in any combat sport — make it 3-0, and now the Brazilian knockout artist also has his rival’s UFC middleweight championship.

Pereira fought back out from a slow start and rocked Adesanya in the fifth round to score the TKO win and claim the 185-pound championship in the main event of UFC 281 on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

The 35-year-old Pereira defeated Adesanya twice — once by knockout — in their old kickboxing days and the wins got the challenger fast-tracked to a title match after just three UFC fights.

Waffles are pancakes delicious cousin and they are not just for breakfast. For me my favorite way to eat waffles is simple. I love good maple syrup and butter, that’s it, just plain and simple. Frankie Edgar sees Garden swan song at UFC 281 as ‘perfect’ way to say goodbye

in Toms River News

Frankie Edgar’s fighting career began nearly two decades ago with an underground promotion in The Bronx — at a time when professional mixed martial arts wasn’t regulated in New York. He made $160 that night, because he got $10 for each ticket he sold.

It’s safe to say that the former UFC lightweight champion’s swan song Saturday on the pay-per-view portion of UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden will go down with more glamour. More rules, too.

“Seventeen years ago, driving up here and fighting some guy with [a] no rules fight, headbutt the guy,” Edgar, a native of Toms River, N.J., recalled at UFC media day on Wednesday, referring to a strike that is very much against the rules today, “and to get to finish it at the most famous arena in the world is definitely full circle.”
