Exciting! L’OSTERIA Italian Restaurant is Coming Soon to Toms River, New Jersey

in Toms River News

I looked up the Osteria and the Italian translation is simply “restaurant” and that is exactly what is coming to Toms River…an Italian restaurant and we are excited!

Italian food is of course a favorite of so many. Is there a time when we don’t love Italian food? Being from a bland Irish family…and by bland, I mean good food but usually meat and potatoes. If you had the same upbringing you know what I mean. Pot roast and potatoes etc nothing with many colors or spice lol and before you protest I love Mom’s pot roast more than most foods so relax lol I am simply making a comparison between the food I grew up with and now the food I enjoy.

Here’s what to do if you see a wild turkey. Hint: Don’t chase it

in Toms River News

Gobble-gobble?

Wild turkeys are back, but some people aren’t too wild about sharing their neighborhoods with them. People have reported turkeys chasing them, attacking their cars, trashing their yards. You might even call them Public Enemy No. 1. But they’re not going anywhere.

A native species, turkeys had disappeared in New Jersey due to habitat changes and hunting by the mid-1800s, according to the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. They were reintroduced in 1977 with 22 birds. Now, there are more than 20,000 in New Jersey, and there are spring and fall turkey hunting seasons.

Monday NJ weather: The second of three chilly November days

in Toms River News

The Bottom Line

Sunday’s high temperatures only reached the mid to upper 40s across New Jersey, easily our coldest day of the season so far. Monday’s forecast highs: also in the mid to upper 40s. With a brisk wind adding to the chill in the air.

Tuesday will be unseasonably cold too, before temperatures moderate midweek. The warmup will be welcome, but brief. Our next storm system late-week will drive a round of rain through New Jersey. Followed by another bout of tumbling temperatures, of course.

At least there are no substantial periods of severe weather or winter weather in the forecast for the next week (at least).

THE JERSEY SHORE NEEDS TO STOP ALL OF OUR ‘EARLY CHRISTMAS’ COMPLAINING

in Toms River Events

It happens every year. The minute a store puts out a Christmas display or a neighbor begins to decorate their house, the complaints begin about Christmas coming too early. I’m here to tell you that this year I really think that complaining needs to stop.

First of all, this is no ordinary year. The phrase “we need a little Christmas'” has never been more appropriate in our lives. Sure, on any other ordinary year seeing Christmas stuff everywhere before you’ve even finished stealing your kids’ Halloween candy is a bit much. But not this year.

And sure, in a normal year, we can all moan that the whole holiday is too commercialized and that the focus is too much on gifts and toys and material things. But not this year. And here’s why I say that.

NJ turning rainy, windy, and then much colder: 6 things to know

in Toms River News

The Bottom Line

We face several hours of steady (if not heavy) rain Friday morning. Along with elevated winds, making for some nasty (and maybe even stormy) weather.

This is the first step in a big transition, driven by a strong cold front. As the sun comes out Friday afternoon, temperatures will start to tumble.

This weekend is going to feel much more November-ish. If not December-ish, by early next week. And there will be some rain and possibly snow showers around this weekend too.

Murphy says NJ will speed up efforts to reduce greenhouse gas, Jersey Shore now included

in Toms River News

Gov. Phil Murphy signed an executive order Wednesday that aims to reduce the state’s greenhouse gas emissions to half of 2006 levels by the end of the decade.

Cut-rate electric vehicles for Shore-area buses and businesses would play a big role in the plan.

Murphy’s order, set forth in an appearance at a solar far in Mount Olive, Morris County, memorializes administration policy moves that, in addition to the 2030 benchmark, aims to reduce New Jersey’s planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions to 80% of 2006 levels by 2050.
