Ice Hockey: Toms River East Tops Bayonne in Opener

BAYONNE, NJ — Toms River East scored five goals in the first period and went on to an 8-1 ice hockey victory over Bayonne in the opening game for both teams Thursday afternoon.

Brady Verdon and Jake Verdon scored two goals apiece to help stake Toms River East to a 5-0 lead.

Former Chemical Plant to Become Park in Toms River

New Jersey Commissioner of Environmental Protection Shawn M. LaTourette today announced a proposal to restore natural resources damaged by decades of industrial pollution and illegal dumping at the Ciba-Geigy Superfund Site in Toms River through a negotiated settlement with BASF Corporation, which inherited responsibility for the site through corporate acquisition.

The proposed settlement is the largest single-site preservation agreement achieved through the Department of Environmental Protection’s Natural Resource Damages program. Under the proposal, approximately 1,000 acres would be permanently preserved for the benefit of the public, with hundreds of acres to be restored through a variety of environmental improvement projects.

When complete, the site will feature public access, passive recreation, and natural resource interpretative and educational opportunities

Community Medical Center Earns U.S. News’ Maternity Care Recognition

TOMS RIVER, NJ – December 6, 2022 − U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice, has named Community Medical Center as a 2022-2023 High Performing hospital for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy). This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

The annual evaluation is designed to assist expectant parents and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care.

Community Medical Center earned a High Performing designation in recognition of maternity care as measured by factors such as newborn complication rates.

Toms River North defeats Passaic Tech to win NJ Group 5 state title and complete historic undefeated season

PISCATAWAY — On Sunday evening at Rutgers University, Toms River North completed one of the most remarkable seasons in Shore Conference football history.

With three touchdown passes from junior quarterback Micah Ford, an outstanding defensive performance, and a title-clinching touchdown run by junior running back Josh Moore in the final minutes, Toms River North defeated Passaic Tech, 28-7, to win the inaugural Group 5 state championship at SHI Stadium.

The Mariners set a state record for points in a season with 660, are believed to be the first team in NJ history to go 14-0, and will go down as one of the most dominant teams in Shore Conference history.

Ocean County Library presents Liberty Tree with “Sing Lustily of Winter: A Garland of Seasonal Songs”

(TOMS RIVER, NJ) — Ring in the winter solstice with the close harmonies of the melodic duo Liberty Tree. “Sing Lustily of Winter: A Garland of Seasonal Songs” will be presented at the Ocean County Library Toms River Branch on Tuesday, December 20. Liberty Tree will perform historical winter-themed songs, from the popular to the obscure, in a capella arrangements and accompanied by guitar. Showtime is 6:30pm.

Liberty Tree consists of folksingers and 18th-century history enthusiasts Bob Durpré and Stacy Roth. Both can often be found participating in Revolutionary War re-enactments such as the Crossing of the Delaware with Glover’s Marbleheaders.

Bob has delighted audiences for over 40 years with ballads, folksongs, and sea chanties of the British Isles and America. He is also a principal singer and dancer with the famed Handsome Molly troupe that performs traditional and tradition-inspired “Molly dances” from England, and has been a Morris dancer since 1985.

Stacy is a local historical interpreter, singer, musician and author who moderates the Living History New Jersey Facebook page. She partners with David Emerson in History on the Hoof, a company that she founded in 1993 to bring historically-based character portrayals and activities to schools, festivals, and events.

– MLB player Todd Frazier shared a post on Instagram on getting to help Jerry Lawler during the Stand Alone Wrestling event last night in Toms River, New Jersey. Frazier came to Lawler’s aid when Lawler faced Rik Ratchet, with Prince Nana and Marc Coralluzo interfering and trying to attack Lawler during the match. One, Toms River North can throw. Junior quarterback Micah Ford went six-for-six in the first half, with three of those completions going for touchdowns.

Two, Toms River North can play defense when necessary. The Mariners came up with a key stop at their seven yard line with 4:21 left.

U.S. News & World Report Names Community Medical Center’s Transitional Care Unit Among Best in New Jersey

TOMS RIVER, NJ – November 28, 2022 – Community Medical Center’s Transitional Care Unit has been recognized as a Best Nursing Home for Short-Term Rehabilitation for 2022-2023 by U.S. News & World Report. This is the fourth consecutive year the facility has been awarded this recognition, which is limited to the top 16% of all Nursing homes rated by U.S. News.

The annual Best Nursing Homes ratings, now in their 13th year, assist prospective residents and their families in making informed decisions in consultation with their medical professionals about where to receive short-term or long-term nursing home care. Only 16% of U.S skilled-nursing facilities earned the “Best Nursing Home” designation this year.

The Transitional Care Unit at Community Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, rated “High Performing” for Short-Term Rehabilitation.
