Ocean County Law Enforcement Agencies Join Forces to Spread Holiday Cheer

TOMS RIVER, NJ (OCEAN)–As part of its mission to instill light and joy in the communities they serve this holiday season, Ocean County law enforcement officials gathered on Wednesday at Steals & Deals in Toms River to collect holiday gifts that will be distributed to needy children across the county.

Arranged by the National Chaplains Association, a nonprofit organization that works tireless around the country to cultivate relationships between communities and their local law enforcement agencies, the toy drive brought together officials and members of Ocean County Department of Corrections PBA 258, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, all of whom had one mission: sharing happiness and love with the communities they cherish.

Shore Conference Player of the Year and other postseason honors, 2022

There are two things the 2022 Shore Conference football season will be remembered for: Triumph and tragedy.

It will be remembered as the Year of the Mariners. Toms River North became the first Group 5 champion in state football history, the first football team in New Jersey to go 14-0 and the highest scoring team in state history.

Outpatient Infusion Unit Named after Pine Belt Family

LAKEWOOD, NJ (OCEAN)–Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus (MMCSC), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has named its outpatient infusion unit, the Pine Belt Family Infusion Center in honor of long-time philanthropists and hospital supporters, the Pine Belt family.

For more than three decades, the Pine Belt family of car dealerships has provided unwavering support to MMCSC and the surrounding communities. The Sickel family together with the Trebino family, led by Mike Trebino, President of Pine Belt Automotive, have donated $750,000 toward the naming of the Outpatient Infusion Unit, where patients are treated for cancer and receive other life-saving infusions on a daily basis.

Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus together with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, provides patients access to the most advanced treatment options including clinical trials, close to home.

Well, this may be one of the gnarliest ice cream flavors I’ve ever heard of, and thanks to a company in New York we could see it soon here in New Jersey.

I’m not really one to ever complain about a new flavor of ice cream and seeing how New Jersey is an ice cream lovers’ playground I feel kind of bad about it.

New Jersey is home to some of the best ice cream there is whether you want soft serve, hard scoop, gelato, or a sundae as big as your face, if you want it, you can probably find it in Jersey.

2022 WOBM Christmas Classic Seeds & Brackets Are Out!

Two weeks away from the start of the 38th Annual WOBM Christmas Classic the seeds and pairings for the basketball tournament have been announced.  Head coaches for the 32 participating teams met Sunday at The Office Lounge in Toms River and were in near unanimous agreement when it came to the top teams in the revised holiday tournament held at the RWJBarnabas Health Arena and presented by Jersey Mike’s.

On the boys side, Manasquan was the top seed in the eight-team Jim Ruhnke Bracket followed by St. John Vianney, Central and Brick Memorial.  The Steve Gepp Bracket has Jackson Memorial seeded first with Freehold Township, Toms River North, and Red Bank Catholic grabbing the other top spots.

In the girls division, it’s defending champion Red Bank Catholic seeded first in the Rey Cervino Bracket followed by Manasquan, Toms River North, and Donovan Catholic.  Ewing was the obvious top choice to lead the Kathy Snyder Bracket and the rest of the top four is made up of Rumson-Fair Haven, Wall, and Red Bank Regional.

Ocean County College Welcomes Future President

TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County College Board of Trustees has announced that Dr. Pamela Monaco will be the next president of Ocean County College and is set to officially join on July 1, 2023.

Currently, Dr. Monaco serves as the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at Wilbur Wright College in Chicago, Illinois.

“A passionate advocate for community colleges, Dr. Monaco believes that education transforms lives, and she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to removing the barriers that stand in the way of student success,” Board Chair Jerry Dasti said. “The Board is confident that Dr. Monaco will be a dynamic and proactive leader at OCC, one who shares our values and goals for the future and whose strategic vision and collaborative spirit will position the College to thrive and excel in the years ahead.”

Are you a universal donor? NJ hospitals desperately in need of Type O

New Jersey hospitals are feeling the strain of a nationwide shortage of the universal blood type.

Medical professionals are putting a call out for donations of Type O blood, as well as platelets, this holiday season.

“The nation’s blood supply is still recovering from the pandemic and lockdown, compounded by the expected drop in blood supply during winter months from bad weather, seasonal illness, holiday fatigue and the limited access to blood drives at schools and business establishments,” said Sally Wells, with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. “Engaging our local donors is paramount.”

New Retail Coming To Mall Property In Toms River

TOMS RIVER – You might have noticed land being cleared on Bay Avenue near the Ocean County Mall. This is the start of a proposed retail building that will be built there. However, the tenants are not yet set in stone.

The 12,000 square foot retail building will have 49 parking spaces, according to township documents. There would be access from “both Bay Avenue and Mall Access Drive.” There are also plans for a drainage system, utilities, landscaping, and lighting.

The property is approximately 2.43 acres. It was a wooded area but all the trees were to be cut down for the development.
