Healthgrades Ranks Three RWJBarnabas Health Facilities Among Top 5 in New Jersey Across Multiple Specialty Care Areas

WEST ORANGE, NJ –  Three RWJBarnabas Health facilities rank among the top 5 in New Jersey across various specialty care areas according to a new analysis released by Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients. The facilities recognized include Community Medical Center in Toms River, N.J., Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J. and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset in Somerville, N.J.

Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center ranked first in New Jersey and among the top 5% in the nation for both Pulmonary Care and Gastrointestinal Surgery, first in the state and among the top 10% in the nation for Cardiology, and second in the state for Gastrointestinal Care. Community Medical Center ranked third in the state for Joint Replacement. RWJUH Somerset ranked fourth in New Jersey and among the top 10% in the nation for both Cardiology and GI Medical Treatment.

Bloomfield HS track teams excel at the Group 4 state relays

The Bloomfield High School indoor track-and-field teams enjoyed strong performances at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Group 4 state relays championships at the Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Toms River on Saturday, Jan. 14.

Senior captain Albina Frangu and freshman Thalia Bell took fifth place in the girls team shot put. Frangu threw 34 feet, 5 inches, which was the fourth-best throw of the meet, and Bell threw 28-1 3/4.

Francis Hodgson Jr. Named Ocean County’s Top Judge

TOMS RIVER – New Jersey’s Chief Justice Stuart Rabner announced on January 10 in a press release that Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr. will lead the Ocean Vicinage, effective Feb. 1.

Hodgson, grew up on Surf City and succeeds Judge Marlene Lynch Ford as the new assignment judge for Ocean County. Ford is retiring after more than two decades on the bench. She served seven years as an assignment judge, according to Rabner’s announcement.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to lead the hard-working staff and judges of the Ocean Vicinage and am grateful for Chief Justice Rabner’s confidence in my ability to continue to uphold the exceptional reputation of the judiciary,”   Hodgson said.

Ocean County to approve multi-million dollar lifeline for senior services

TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Board of Commissioners plans to authorize $7.4 million in federal, state and county funds for 25 contracts covering 50 social service programs at its first regular meeting of 2023 next week.

The appropriations come just as Commission Director Joseph H. Vicari has written to President Joe Biden, with a request for more federal aid for home-delivered meals to local senior citizens in need, and greater environmental protection measures for the Shore and Barnegat Bay.

At an agenda session of the board on Wednesday, Vicari said that a growing number of the county’s estimated 200,000 senior citizens are now 85 and older.

KPot Korean BBQ location will open in the Harmon Meadow section, near where the old Pier 1 Imports was located, according to Mayor Mike Gonnelli.

KPot offers Korean BBQ and Asian hot pot soups, where you cook seasoned meats on a grill at your table, or in a hot steaming bowl of broth in front of you. If you want to experience what KPot is like, there is an existing location in Kearny and another one on Grand Street in Jersey City.

The research identifies top schools in the state based on tuition costs, the number of credits required to graduate, and the online coursework delivery format.”  Brookdale finished in the #2 spot for community colleges in New Jersey, right behind Raritan Valley. Nice showing for the “Jersey Blues”. Brookdale received the “Best Partnerships” award.
