New Jersey artist Mark Retacco creates inspiring artwork

in Toms River News

Hailing from South Toms River, Mark Retacco is an incredible artist whose work has been featured on MTV, PBS, and even in the White House. At a young age, his class trip to the Newark Museum helped him realize even further how passionate he was about art, where he viewed a unique exhibit that showed buildings made out of wood chips, and after that, he would go home and build his own cities in the backyard.

Originally from Newark, in the early 1970s, his family moved down to Ocean County. At this time Mark made a switch from a private Catholic school to a public school. Unfortunately, he ended up a victim of bullying when switching to the new school. Although he had a safe haven during art class, most of the other parts of his school day were torture. He recalls it being a very painful experience.

Boys Soccer – 2023 Season Preview: Class B North

in Toms River News

With only one game against each divisional opponent during the regular season, it is not only common for division titles to be decided in the final set of division games; it is to be expected. What has made Class B North unique is that not only has the division race gone to the wire, but it has gone to the wire with more than two teams in the mix. Last season, five teams were competing for a piece of the division until the final game: division champion Colts Neck, Neptune, Long Branch, Ocean and Manasquan.

With Colts Neck, Long Branch and Manasquan returning key pieces throughout their respective formations, a pile-up at the finish line could be in the cards again this season. Ocean also has the program pedigree and experience in key spots to be a factor, while Matawan remains a tough out. The wild cards will be Freehold Boro and Neptune – one a new member of the division with some scoring prowess (Freehold) and the other a returning contender without many returning players (Neptune).

in Toms River News

TOMS RIVER, NJ – It was supposed to be the summer when spotted lantern flies were expected to decimate gardens and forests across New Jersey.

But it hasn’t happened and thankfully, too late in the summer to start. This year, spotted lantern flies are out and about across New Jersey, just not in the numbers predicted prior to the summer.

The observed decline in spotted lanternfly populations in New Jersey may be attributed to several factors, including extreme weather conditions and their impact on host plants, according to Rutgers entomologist George Hamilton.

A Rare Super Blue Moon Will Shine Above New Jersey This Week

in Toms River Events/Toms River News

TOMS RIVER, NJ – If you want to see a rare lunar event, you might want to check the skies over New Jersey Wednesday night. A rare super blue moon event will be visible. It will be the last time you can see the spectacle until 2037.

The upcoming full Moon on Wednesday, August 30, is noteworthy for several reasons.

It will be a supermoon, meaning that the Moon will be at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, making it appear somewhat brighter and about 14% larger than when it is at its farthest point. The size difference may not be hugely noticeable to the naked eye but can be appreciated through telescopic observation.
