Updated Homework Policy In Toms River Schools Aims For Balance

TOMS RIVER, NJ — It’s been a debate for several years: Is homework beneficial, and if so, how much is too much?

In the Toms River Regional Schools, an update to the district’s homework policy aims to bring balance to the debate. While it does not eliminate homework entirely, it does aim to deter excessive assignments and busywork.

The policy introduced Wednesday night on first reading sets guidelines for the amount of homework teachers should assign based on the age and grade level of students. It also bans assignments given out before a break with a due date of the return to school.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and more things to do this weekend at the Jersey Shore

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Red Bank Catholic High School senior Madeleine Carpenter has curated an Ecuadorian art exhibit to be featured at Frameworks Gallery, 135 Monmouth St., in Red Bank. The opening reception takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

The idea of an exhibit, running through Oct. 27, came to the Monmouth Beach teenager after a visit to Ecuador last summer. She grew up surrounded by her Ecuadorian grandmother’s art collection, often wondering what many of the pieces signified.

In Ecuador, she was able to research and meet with several artists, and discovered what an incredible collection of pieces her grandmother, Berthalina Vincent Moore, brought to New Jersey over the last 50 years.

Sebastian Rivera to Wrestle at 2023 World Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Five-time All-American and 2022 NCAA bronze medalist Sebastian Rivera will represent Team Puerto Rico next week at the 2023 World Championships. Rivera will compete at 65 kilograms at the world freestyle championships, held September 16-24 in Belgrade, Serbia. Rivera will be coached by Jeff Buxton and Donny Pritzlaff at the championships.

Rivera recently captured a bronze medal for Team Puerto Rico this past May at the 2023 Pan-American Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Competing at 65 kilograms, Rivera defeated Albaro Rudecindo Camacho (Dominican Republic) by VPO1, 9-2, to finish third in his weight class at the championships.

Community Medical Center Expands Access to Women’s Health Care in Ocean County Through New Outpatient Center

TOMS RIVER, N.J. –Community Medical Center (CMC), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, is expanding access to high-quality, comprehensive and affordable obstetric and gynecologic (OB-GYN) care in Ocean County with the opening of the CMC Women’s Health Center.

Located at 368 Lakehurst Road in Toms River, the CMC Women’s Health Center offers outpatient OB/GYN services for women of all ages and stages of life including prenatal care, midwifery care, well-woman exams, preventative care and screenings, and menopausal care. The Center is staffed by a dedicated team of OB/GYN providers, affiliated with RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group, who are focused on patient support and education.
