VOTE NOW! The Top 5 Best High School Marching Bands in Ocean County, NJ

in Toms River Events/Toms River News

We’ve made it to the TOP 5, vote for your favorite.

Oh man, to me there is nothing better than a Friday night at a local football game listening to the marching band in their seats playing their hearts out. I love sitting right next to them in the bleachers. That is the BEST school spirit!

I tried to play several instruments as a youth – the clarinet, flute, and drums. I just couldn’t do it. Looking back now, I guess I didn’t give it enough time to learn. The marching band always had a little club and I think I secretly always wanted to be a part of it. That’s why I would sit next to them in the bleachers. I wanted to be a part of their passion and school spirit.

Three hospitals in Monmouth and Ocean counties are among those that have begun to require employees and visitors wear masks after seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases, officials said Wednesday, a reminder that the public health emergency is over, but the virus continues to be a threat.

Hackensack Meridian Health said it made the move at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, Ocean University Medical Center in Brick and Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford, where there has been an increase in cases at the facilities and in the community.

The Edison-based hospital network also mandated masks at Old Bridge Medical Center in Middlesex County and Carrier Clinic in Montgomery Township, Somerset County. And it is strongly encouraging employees and visitors to wear masks at its other hospitals.

Who Remembers the Route 37 Dairy Queen in Toms River?

in Toms River News

Ah, the Dairy Queen on Route 37 in Toms River. Not just a haven for ice cream lovers but a genuine local hangout that shaped the childhoods of many who grew up in the area in the 1980s. Located where Honda Universe now stands, this wasn’t just any Dairy Queen—it was a full-service oasis that meant much more to the community than just Blizzards and Dilly Bars.

The journey to Dairy Queen was its own mini-adventure. After eagerly awaiting Friday, allowances in hand for completing our chores, we would hop onto our Mongoose and Redline BMX bikes. We’d weave through the wooded trail behind Hill Road, near the Holiday Inn, defying the temptation of exploring the large sewer pipes underneath Toms River or taking on a few ramps along the path. Our final destination? Dairy Queen, of course.

Construction Begins This Week To Re-Pave Water Street in Downtown Toms River

in Toms River News

If You are like me, then maybe you are tired of bouncing up and down Water Street in Downtown Toms River. Coming to work each day I get off at Exit 81 and then proceed to bounce my way down Water Street all the way until I exit at Robbins Street. It’s like bounce, smash, and bang pretty much the whole way from the Garden State Parkway ramp to our offices on Robbins. When I leave work it’s the same rough ride right back to the Parkway, but hopefully, that’s coming to an end.

Now with the good news this project is going to run this week, it means there will be delays around Downtown Toms River, but let’s not complain, it’ll mean fantastic new pavement on Water Street and I’m happy about that, they are doing overnight paving so that may help alleviate traffic delays in and around Downtown Toms River. So thanks folks I’m looking forward to this as I commute in and out of Toms River.
