Toms River Police Officer Delivers A Beautiful Baby Girl in Ocean County

in Toms River News

This is a story that will put a smile on the face of any resident and parent here at the Jersey Shore. Ever wonder how many babies police officers deliver? According to Grizly.com “Although in reality only a handful of babies are delivered by law enforcement officers each year, they do receive thorough training for the task. They are more likely to assist by keeping things under control as well as possible and calling paramedics and an ambulance to do the real work of it. Among other things, recruits receive training on Lamaze, the anatomy of the birth canal and how to syringe out a baby’s mouth.”

This fantastic story involves a Toms River couple and their new addition to their family, which was aided by the efforts of the Toms River Police. On September 27th, shortly after midnight, police were notified of a woman in labor. According to the TRPD social media, Toms River Police Officer Pete Saker was first on the scene, and within minutes of arriving, he delivered a beautiful baby girl. Baby Mia was born on September 27th and big thanks to Officer Saker for being there in this time of need.

Why NJ should have Halloween weekend instead of changing the day

in Toms River Events/Toms River News

Halloween is almost upon us in New Jersey. That one night when we get to dress up any way we want and go door-to-door collecting enough candy that’ll last us into the new year.

Every year, however, there seems to be some debate regarding the exact date of Halloween. Maybe not so much about the date of October 31, but when precisely it should be celebrated.

There have been talks lately about some New Jersey towns hosting Halloween on a day other than October 31. Trick-or-treating, to be more precise.

Here is why there is no trick or treating in Toms River on Halloween

in Toms River News

TOMS RIVER – To newcomers, it likely seems bizarre: trick or treating in Toms River and several surrounding towns will be held on Oct. 30, instead of on Halloween.

The reason? The 84th edition of Toms River Fire Co. 1’s Halloween Parade will march in the downtown on Oct. 31, Halloween night.

Toms River and surrounding river towns, including Pine Beach, Beachwood and South Toms River, have long held trick or treating on the day before Halloween to allow kids to get treats and also participate in the parade.

Toms River Vest-A-Cop Raises Money Despite Rainy Day

in Toms River News

TOMS RIVER – Despite the threat of a washout, even intermittent downpours couldn’t dampen the spirits of those who came out to support the local police department’s bulletproof vest fundraiser.

The Vest-a-Cop event, sponsored by the Toms River PBA and Police Department, was held on Washington Street in the downtown area. While crowds were smaller than in years past, the fundraiser was still a success.

“Our community showed up and we’re so grateful for them,” said Jillian Messina, Media Relations Specialist for the Toms River Police Department. “The restaurants were packed with people and many just came to buy shirts.”
