See how safe your hospital is as N.J. slips in new national ranking

in Toms River News

New Jersey slipped from first place in the spring to 13th this fall for the number of hospitals earning top marks for its track record of keeping patients safe from mistakes, accidents and other harm, according to the Leapfrog Hospital Safety report card.

Twenty-four hospitals earned an A, or 11 fewer than in the last round, and 27 hospitals scored a B, 9 more than in the spring. There were 16 C’s, just one more than last time, according to the report.

The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit made up of large employers and other health care purchasers, created the safety scores for hospitals in response to a 1999 Institute of Medicine report that found as many as 98,000 people die from preventable mistakes in hospitals each year. Leapfrog released the first round of grades in 2012.

Halloween Harvest Hoedown is a scary fun time

in Toms River Events

As a full moon rose in the sky, trickers, treaters and ghouls of all ages came out in full force last Friday night, filling Lavallette with an eerily festive atmosphere for all to enjoy.

The night was heavily family-oriented, not lacking in fun activities for younger hoedowners to do. The fun began for the extra-smallest Lavallette resident with a concert and “silly sing-along” with musician Yosi Levin at the borough’s elementary school.

While the treats were provided by Jersey Mike’s Subs and served by the mayor and council, the day’s tricks were conjured up by Magician John “Mr. Magico” Carlson, who gave a performance including balloon animals and sleight-of-hand.

Silverton’s McIntyre’s Pub Is Now Officially Mac’s Pub

in Toms River News

The changes were subtle at first, however now the renovations are complete and Silverton has a newly revamped neighborhood hang, Mac’s Pub!

The beloved McIntyre’s Pub, at 1747 Hooper Avenue in Toms River, had made the Anchorage Square Plaza it’s home since moving operations from Route 37 nearly a decade ago. Original owners Gerry McIntyre and Jim Reynolds had built the already successful pub into a staple of the Silverton community. This year they felt it was time to hand over the reigns, and enjoy some relaxation. However, it was important to the duo to keep the quality and sense of a neighborhood bar where people could meet, eat, and drink. So what better thing to do, than to sort of “keep it in the family”.

Halloween is so close and the decorations are fantastic for Halloween. I never remember front yards looking as impressive as they do now for Halloween.

Decorated houses this year are amazing, I just can’t believe it.

I love driving around the neighborhood like a Christmastime and seeing the decorations. Halloween has become so popular and some of you go nuts for Halloween and your decorations on your front lawn are just pure awesome.
