TOMS RIVER, N.J. – An international journalist from New Jersey has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Toms River native, Maria Ressa, was recognized for her work in journalism. She spent nearly twenty years covering Southeast Asia as an investigative reporter for CNN. The 58-year-old grew up in Toms River after his family left the Phillippines.
Ressa, Class of ’82 at Toms River North High School, is an internationally renowned journalist and co-founder of the website Rappler.com, an online news site based in the Philippines. She continued her education at Princeton University. Ressa won the award along with fellow journalist Dmitry Muratov.
